2009 State Trials: Ladies Top 12 Results

Hi all

The Top 12 playoff for the 2009 Ladies State Team was held over the weekend at The Basement. An excellent two days’ play saw a few new faces in the ACT side to contest this year’s National Championships. The format was 4 times round robin for a total of 44 frames each, with the top 7 qualifying for the state team, and the top 4 qualifying for the Top 4 Shootout to decide the 2009 ACT Ladies Champion.

Results: Summer 09 Finals Round 1

Hi all

An Interesting first week of finals saw three matches go to a best of five playoff, most notably in div 4, where both matches went to a playoff. The Rail Runners triumphed 3-1 while the Demons nailed the Jets 3-0. In Div One, the two Fyshwick Tavern teams fought it out to 12 all before the Embalmers got up 3-2 in the playoff.

4 of the 5 Minor Premiers won this week, with only the div 4 Tomtones losing in a playoff. But all teams have a second chance next week in the double elimination format. Simply put, the two winners this week play each other and the two losers play each other next week.

Next week sees the two winners from tonight fight for a place in the Grand Final, while the losers will play off to stay alive in the finals.

The draw for next week is below, along with the results from tonight. Good luck to all teams next week – remember to leave your last frame at the table and smash that next opponent!

Can all captains with a home game next week please inform their venues.

Quick note – the calendar on the website indicates that the Winter Season Nominations are due at the next meeting, however they are actually due at the June Meeting, but any early forms will be gladly accepted. In regards to the Open Trials, please be advised that while nominations have closed, groups and venues will not be released until the Sunday before Round One. If any player wishes to adjust their preferred day of play for round one please let me know prior to this date. Once again, the preferred day of play is only guaranteed for the first round, and unfortunately it is the luck of the draw for round 2 onwards (but as you all know I will bust my arse to accommodate preferences).

2009 Ladies Singles Selection Trials

As you know, the Ladies State Team Selection Trials commence this weekend. With 24 entrants, there will be 3 groups of 8 players, with the top 4 in each group qualifying for the Top 12, which will be held on the weekend of 18/19 April (both days). Groups are listed in an Excel spreadsheet, available for download here:

http://www.acteba.com.au/downloads/2009_ladies_singles_groups.xls

The format will be as follows:

1) 3 round robins, which is expected to take 6-7 hours to complete. The 60 second limit for breaking commences as soon as each frame is called to help with a smoothly run day.

2) Play commences at 10am for each group, with tables open for practice from 9.30am. Any player not in attendance when their first frame is called will be disqualified, unless they have already contacted the Tournament Director or the Group Adjudicator to explain why they will be late.

3) As there are no referees for the day, any disputes must be directed to the Adjudicator, ie total snooker calls, rule queries, or if you need someone to watch a shot that may result in a foul. Despite the lack of a timekeeper, please note that the 60 second rule for shots is still in force. If you believe your opponent is breaching the time limit, please ask the adjudicator to time the remainder of the frame.

4) In the event of players remaining on equal frames in a tie for 4th spot in round 1, a playoff of best of 3 will be held, with the first break to be decided by a coin toss. All positions other than 4th can remain in a tie.

5) The Top 12 will also be 3 round robins, spread over two days. The Top 7 qualify for the ACT Ladies Team to contest the National Championships here in Canberra later in the year, while the Top 4 qualify for the Top 4 Shootout to decide the 2009 ACT Ladies Champion. In the event of the tie on frames, 4th place will contest a best of 3 playoff for the Top 4, 7th place for State Team selection and positions from 8 to 12 to establish an order of merit should a place in the State Team become available.

Just a reminder again that the start time is 10am, not the usual 11am, as we are using venues that have only 2 or 3 tables.

Good luck to all ladies this weekend, last year’s State Team performed exceptionally well and it looks like being even stronger this year, with 2 current Australian reps competing in the trials.

(Can the captains of Lee Love’s and Ruth Stone’s teams please pass this information on to them?)

Results: Summer 09 Round 11

Hi all

With the Gremlins going down 13-11 last night, we now have 3 teams remaining undefeated, the Stickmen, Scorpions and the Jets (who I incorrectly reported had lost last week – sorry guys). Only 3 rounds to go now, keep it up!

The Scorpions won again by 13-11, and now seal their finals spot, along with the Stickmen, Hammerheads and Embalmers in div 1, the Pumas and Pirates in div 3, the Jets and Tomtones in div 4, and the Gremlins, Motley Cues and Gringos in div 5. As for the remaining spots, only 3 of the other 26 teams are now out of the running, leaving these last couple of rounds to produce some important results.

Another big 19-5 win by the Pains sees them top this week’s scoresheet, as the results were otherwise tight, with 13 of the 17 games finishing between 12-12 and 14-10.

As I said – some important matches coming up for more than half the teams in the next few weeks, with the top teams still having home ground advantage to play for as well, so good luck to all teams involved – let’s see a few upsets to mix things up!

Below are the results from last night.
