Just a heads up to all teams playing at The Maram tonight: The Maram’s liquor license is now in effect, so the previous arrangement of BYO drinks is no longer in place. This also goes for food, as they have a bistro open as well.
Results: Summer 09 Round 4
Hi all
Round 4 is done and dusted which means we are now officially one quarter of the way through the season (and almost a third of the way to the finals). That’s right – no more “it’s still early we’ll find our rhythm” excuses, it’s game on from here.
Of course every team is still in the running for the finals, but our 7 undefeated teams are looking good so far. They are the Stickmen, the Scorpions, the Pumas, the Pirates, the Jets, the Tomtones and the Gremlins. As much as I love to see records broken, someone needs to bring them back to the pack. But seriously, well done to these teams and keep up the good form. And that goes especially for The Basement Jets, who are still shooting 67.71%!! OK maybe someone does need to bring them down…
The big winners tonight were the Hammerheads and Gremlins, who each nailed 17-7 victories, but as is the nature of eight ball, pretty much all other scores were tight.
Don’t forget that names and numbers are due today (Thursday) for the Presentation Night. Please give Kath Harmon a call on 0412 410 091 to confirm these details.
Well done to the winners this week and good luck to all teams next week. Below are the results for this week and attached is a detailed ladder.
Please note that an error was made in the results for Rd 3, the Gringos defeated Neil & Bob 15-9 rather than the other way round. There is also a slight discrepancy in the Div 5 table which will be sorted out shortly. Continue reading
Results: Summer 09 Round 3
Hi all
My apologies for the late results. I was still missing a few results before I left for work this morning and wanted to send out an accurate ladder.
Below the cut are the results from last night. Continue reading
Results: Summer 09 Round 2
Hi all
After a round of big wins last week, we saw 3 draws and 3 13-11 results this round. But this didn’t count out the big victories, with the Motley Cues posting a mammoth 19-5 win, along with the Hammerheads and Demons recording 17-7 wins, the Demons bouncing back from a big loss last week. I think someone needs to stop the Hammerheads, DV8s and Tomtones, all of whom are shooting over 70% for the season!
This week also saw the introduction of a new team, the Darcy’s Defenestraters in division 5. While it was too late to get their season off the ground this week, they will be making up matches against the Motley Cues and Neil & Bob later in the season.
Once again, a small housekeeping note. The Maram (the new Venue) at Erindale called me tonight. For those who don’t know, The Maram are due to open in a couple of weeks, but until then are unable to serve drinks or food, obviously. They are being extremely generous in opening the tables for us and have negotiated an arrangement with Liqour Licensing that allows us to provide our own drinks, with a steadfast rule that no money can exchange hands within the premises, as this could be construed as purchasing alcohol. On Monday I called every captain whose team were playing there tonight to inform them of the arrangement, but unfortunately this message was not passed on to most players. This is really disappointing as it is a situation which should have been avoided.
Please guys, venues are the lifeblood of our association, and simple messages like this need to be relayed to avoid any unnecessary confusion. So can I ask the captains of the following teams (who play there next Wednesday) to start calling their players from today, (and I will be calling each captain on Monday again to remind them) the Schroomptons, the Snipers, the Katz, the Filthy Wanderers, the Kickers, the Dubber Ruckies, the Motley Cues and the Deep Pockets. I know it’s a case of if the cap fits, wear it, but you understand. Thanks.
Enough from me, well done to the winners tonight and good luck to all teams next week! Click through for the full results.

Summer 09 Results System online
Players,
All teams in all divisions have now been pumped into our shiny new Results/Ladder system, however please beware that until the first match results are entered on (hopefully) Thursday morning, you’ll see some “divide by zero” PHP errors on the Results/Ladder page.
In the meantime, good luck for round 1!
[EDIT]: The PHP errors are now fixed. Yay for logic. If you have any questions about the new system, feel free to ask.
Results: Summer 09 Round 1
Hi all
Happy New Year to everyone and hope you and your families had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. I also hope you picked up a cue more often than I did over the break, although some of the results tell me otherwise…
This year promises to be a great one, with numbers in the trials continuing to grow and more money comps planned to assist fundraising, culminating in the Australian Eight Ball Federation National Championships being held right here in the nation’s capital.
Welcome to the Summer 2009 State League Competition. With the loss of 2 teams, it has unfortunately created a bye in divisions 2 and 3 this season, but this only adds to the competition in these divisions. It also strengthens the standard of divisions 4 and 5, with a few teams having to drop a division to even the team numbers over the five divisions.
We welcome 2 new venues this season, The Maram and the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Club, as well as the return of The Tradies@Woden and Queanbeyan Roos Club. In addition to our existing 13 venues, some of whom have taken on an additional team, we thank you for supporting the ACT Eight Ball Association in our 20th year.
A few teams came bolting out of the gates this round, with some massive victories recorded. The Rail Runners celebrated their promotion with a 19-5 win, while the Jets proved they would be hard to beat in div 4 with another 19-5 victory. But the big scores didn’t stop there, with the Hammerheads, DV8s and Tomtones all recorded 18-6 wins. In fact, the average score in div 1 was 16-8, whilst div 4 was 19-5!!
With the teams in Div 1 largely unchanged, it seems like it will tough as ever, but a first up loss for the Embalmers added to big wins from runners-up Hammerheads and 5th place Stickmen looks like making it interesting.
Div 2 looks like being as close as last season, where the final round saw teams 4-7 all in with a chance of the last finals spot, and the Crushers will rebound strongly after their loss tonight, where they were unlucky in a number of frames.
The Pains start their climb up the ladder this season in div 3, but the existing teams, especially last season’s minor premiers The Pumas, will give them a run for the money. But it would be hard to bet against the Pumas after their dominance last season, before narrowly missing out 3-2 in a playoff in the Grand Final.
One of the toughest divisions will definitely be Division 4, where the extra byes have forced 3 of last season’s div 3 teams down. The Demons, Jets and Tomtones will be eager to get back up, but the remaining teams will be ready for them after securing consistent rosters this season.
Division 5 sees 3 teams down from div 4 this season, but last season’s runners up the Motley Cues will see Dice keen to join Blackie in div 4.
All up, I look forward to another great season of Eight Ball, but I have to mention a few housekeeping points as usual. Trials nominations are due at the April meeting, but I welcome any early nominations at the March meeting, as this will assist me in setting up the Open Singles in particular. Also, please feel free to encourage your team members to volunteer for adjudicating, at the end of the day it’s a chance to have a few beers and watch some great eight ball, and of course your help is greatly appreciated.
One last note, I have received a number of phone calls over the past few weeks at really odd times of night. Admittedly, I do work a couple of nights a week at the moment, but if I don’t answer your call, please send me a text message with your name and I will return your call the following day – don’t keep calling until midnight, please. I’m trying not to be too picky here but please don’t call after 9pm on a school night as I have a young daughter and also have to get up for work in the morning. That being said, it is only a few individuals and not any of the captains, just please forward to your players.
Anyway, enough from me, the results from round 1 are below. Continue reading
