Hi all
My apologies for my tardiness the last two weeks. Back to normal this week hopefully.
We’ve hit the half way mark of the season and we still have 5 undefeated teams – one in each division. Well done to the Stickmen, Scorpions, Pirates, Jets and Gremlins. In addition, the Jets, Stickmen and Gremlins are shooting the highest percentages so far, with the Jets on 63.89, the Stickmen on 63.10 and the Gremlins on 62.50. Other teams shooting above 60% are the Hammerheads on 61.90, the Embalmers on 61.31 and the Tomtones on 60.42. Most of us would be happy with just 1 or 2 of our players shooting that, let alone the whole team!
Mathematically every team is still in it, but some need to really pick up their game to make the finals, while the half way leaders need to consolidate their good first half.
Don’t forget that Ladies Trials Nominations are due next Monday as well as registration fees and Presentation Night fees. Continue reading
With many apologies for tardiness, Chris has sent me the results from Round 6.
Please note that when viewing the ladder online, the attendance bonus point has been added.
Phil Bush sent in the following wrapup from the Geelong Open, along with a reminder about the upcoming Woodonga 8-Ball Championships:
This year the Geelong Open was held at the White Eagle House Club from 14 to 15 February. Five people entered from the ACT: Mick Norton, Cindy Blackmore, Steve Thomas, Dave Kirkpatrick and Phil Bush. It was a very enjoyable event and a great experience. Much money was raised for the Australian Teams travelling to England and the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Well done Velo on organising the event.
A big congratulations to Cindy on winning the Ladies Open – great effort, and well done to Mick Norton who did the best from our male contingent, finishing in the Top 16. Unfortunately Mick was knocked out by the eventual winner of the tournament, James Delahunty.
Just a quick reminder that the Albury Woodonga 8 Ball Championships are being conducted from 6 to 8 March. For more information on this event please call Andrea Bird on 0425 876 773 from Pool Victoria (or email admin[at]poolvictoria.org.au) or visit the Pool Victoria website.
Cheers,
Bushie

Hi all
For the first time in my short history of reporting results, we saw more than one team crack the 20 frame barrier – in fact there were three! With apologies to the losers, the Stickmen ran out 21-3 winners and the Hammerheads and Demons were 20-4 victors in a strange round which also saw Division 2 hold 3 very tight results. In fact, the Stickmen and Hammerheads have now overtaken the Jets (who drew tonight) as overall percentage leaders with 66.67%! Percentage or not, though, the Embalmers are still within a point of first place there in first division.
Round 5 still sees 7 undefeated teams, the previously mentioned Stickmen in div 1, the Scorpions in div 2, the Pumas and Pirates (Yaargh) in div 3, the Tomtones and Jets in div 4 and the Gremlins in div 5. As well as the Stickmen and Hammerheads, 5 other teams are still shooting above 60% – the Tomtones 64.58, Jets 64.17, DV8s 63.54, Gremlins 60.84 and Pumas 60.42.
Still too early to pick finalists, but 2nd division looks like once again being the hardest to pick, with still only 2 points separating 3rd and last (and 2 teams still have a bye up their sleeve).
Just a quick note on teams due to play at The Maram (who aren’t already aware) – they are now open for business, so their previously accommodating arrangement of BYO food and drinks has ceased, as they now have now opened their bar and bistro.
Well done to all winners tonight, and good luck to all teams next week. Below are the results from tonight (minus one I am still waiting on).
Just a heads up to all teams playing at The Maram tonight: The Maram’s liquor license is now in effect, so the previous arrangement of BYO drinks is no longer in place. This also goes for food, as they have a bistro open as well.
Hi all
Round 4 is done and dusted which means we are now officially one quarter of the way through the season (and almost a third of the way to the finals). That’s right – no more “it’s still early we’ll find our rhythm” excuses, it’s game on from here.
Of course every team is still in the running for the finals, but our 7 undefeated teams are looking good so far. They are the Stickmen, the Scorpions, the Pumas, the Pirates, the Jets, the Tomtones and the Gremlins. As much as I love to see records broken, someone needs to bring them back to the pack. But seriously, well done to these teams and keep up the good form. And that goes especially for The Basement Jets, who are still shooting 67.71%!! OK maybe someone does need to bring them down…
The big winners tonight were the Hammerheads and Gremlins, who each nailed 17-7 victories, but as is the nature of eight ball, pretty much all other scores were tight.
Don’t forget that names and numbers are due today (Thursday) for the Presentation Night. Please give Kath Harmon a call on 0412 410 091 to confirm these details.
Well done to the winners this week and good luck to all teams next week. Below are the results for this week and attached is a detailed ladder.
Please note that an error was made in the results for Rd 3, the Gringos defeated Neil & Bob 15-9 rather than the other way round. There is also a slight discrepancy in the Div 5 table which will be sorted out shortly. Continue reading
