2009 Ladies Singles Selection Trials

As you know, the Ladies State Team Selection Trials commence this weekend. With 24 entrants, there will be 3 groups of 8 players, with the top 4 in each group qualifying for the Top 12, which will be held on the weekend of 18/19 April (both days). Groups are listed in an Excel spreadsheet, available for download here:

The format will be as follows:

1) 3 round robins, which is expected to take 6-7 hours to complete. The 60 second limit for breaking commences as soon as each frame is called to help with a smoothly run day.

2) Play commences at 10am for each group, with tables open for practice from 9.30am. Any player not in attendance when their first frame is called will be disqualified, unless they have already contacted the Tournament Director or the Group Adjudicator to explain why they will be late.

3) As there are no referees for the day, any disputes must be directed to the Adjudicator, ie total snooker calls, rule queries, or if you need someone to watch a shot that may result in a foul. Despite the lack of a timekeeper, please note that the 60 second rule for shots is still in force. If you believe your opponent is breaching the time limit, please ask the adjudicator to time the remainder of the frame.

4) In the event of players remaining on equal frames in a tie for 4th spot in round 1, a playoff of best of 3 will be held, with the first break to be decided by a coin toss. All positions other than 4th can remain in a tie.

5) The Top 12 will also be 3 round robins, spread over two days. The Top 7 qualify for the ACT Ladies Team to contest the National Championships here in Canberra later in the year, while the Top 4 qualify for the Top 4 Shootout to decide the 2009 ACT Ladies Champion. In the event of the tie on frames, 4th place will contest a best of 3 playoff for the Top 4, 7th place for State Team selection and positions from 8 to 12 to establish an order of merit should a place in the State Team become available.

Just a reminder again that the start time is 10am, not the usual 11am, as we are using venues that have only 2 or 3 tables.

Good luck to all ladies this weekend, last year’s State Team performed exceptionally well and it looks like being even stronger this year, with 2 current Australian reps competing in the trials.

(Can the captains of Lee Love’s and Ruth Stone’s teams please pass this information on to them?)
