State of Origin 2010 Final Results

Southern Guns Win 2010 State of Origin Series!

Last night saw the conclusion of the State of Origin series for 2010, with the Division 1 match. The Guns went in with a four frame lead, but with two very strong teams the overall winner could have been either side.

All matches have been close this year, but this topped it. Round by round scores were 4-4, 8-8, 12-12.

Going into the fourth round the Guns only needed to win three frames to win the series. The Potters came in firing and won the first three frames, making it very tense in the Guns camp. The Guns fired back and won four of the next five frames. Potters won the final frame to end the match with a 16-16 draw.

Special mention to Edmund Chen and Michael Hazilias from the Northern Potters who both shot 4/4.

So, after 160 frames over five divisions, the final score is Southern Guns 82 – Northern Potters 78. The Guns get the State of Origin shield back after a two year break.

Congratulations to all the players for a very competitive series, and thank you to Chisholm Tavern, Labor Club, Ojo Cafe and Bar, Fyshwick Tavern and The Maram for hosting the matches.

State Trials: 2010 ACTEBA Open Singles Champion

Matt Harmon

Congratulations to Matt on winning his 5th Open Singles Title, in doing so becoming the most decorated Open Singles player in ACTEBA history.

Matt did it the hard way, losing his first match to Michael Hazilias before facing a 1-4 deficit to Sterling Cross and certain elimination. But Matt rallied, winning the last four frames and then his next 3 against Anthony Chia to set up an unlikely finals spot by edging Hazza out by a solitary frame after Matt, Hazza and Anthony all finished on two wins each. Sterling was the unlucky one, but can still celebrate 4th spot in the ACT for the year.

Matt then went on to complete a 9-5 victory over Anthony in the final.

The day was highlighted by the aggressive approach all four players took into each frame, with some unbelievable white ball control displayed by all.

State of Origin 2010 Update

2nd Division

In keeping with the first three matches, the 2nd division match last night was so close! The Guns came in with a two frame lead, but with two strong teams these two frames didn’t necessarily mean a lot.

Progressive scores were 4-4, 8-8 and then 13-11 to the Guns after the third round (all four matches played have seen the score 13-11 to the Guns at three quarter time!).

Guns won the match 17-15, bringing the overall scores to Southern Guns 66 – Northern Potters 62.

Special mention to Cindy Blackmore from the Southern Guns who shot 4/4.

1st Division match will be played at The Maram next Wednesday (30 June), 8pm. Will the Guns keep their lead and get the shield back after two years, or will the Potters fight back and keep the shield another year? Come along and cheer on your team it what promises to be another exciting match!!

2010 Open Singles Top 16 Statistical Analysis

It was pointed out to me very early that my Top 16 ladder I sent with the email was calculated against 52 frames played instead of the 60 that were actually played. This was because I used last year’s primitive spreadsheet that had only 14 players. You’ll notice this has been amended since.

Well I’ve tried to make amends by providing possibly the most detailed statistical analysis of any Eight Ball Tournament anywhere. Yes, I am a stats nerd and I know there are a few poor souls like me out there.
