Hi all

A huge day at The Maram on Sunday 24 July saw both the Ladies Doubles Top 4 and the Masters Singles Top 8 play off for their respective titles, with the Masters also playing for the 4 spots in this year’s ACT Masters Team. With ACTEBA’s most experienced adjudicator overseeing the two groups, the 16 participants were assured of a smoothly run day.

State Trials: 2010 Open Doubles Round One Groups

Hi all

Welcome to the 2010 ACTEBA Open Doubles Tournament. This year we have a record 82 pairs competing over three weekends for the title, starting this weekend with 10 groups of 8 pairs.

The format for round one is as follows:

Play will commence at 11am, with tables open at 10.30am, except at Kaleen Bar & Bistro, where play begins at 11.30, with tables open from 11am.

Any pair not present when the first frame of the day is called will be disqualified, except where they have contacted the adjudicator, the Tournament Director or the Assistant Tournament Director to explain their late arrival at least 15 minutes prior to the start of play. Please note that contacting another player at the venue will not be accepted unless they can speak to the people named above.

Play will consist of three round robins, for a total of 21 frames for each pair.

The Top Three will qualify for round two.

In the event of a tie for third place, a minimum of a race to 2 must be played, however the competing pairs may decide to play more frames.

Should the playoff be contested by more than two pairs, a round robin of minimum race to 2 will be contested, with the placings decided in the respective order: matches won, frames won, least frames lost. Should a tie still occur, affected pairs will recommence the playoff.

2010 Winter TEAM FEES

Captains/Players,

Due to the change in the start date to the Winter 2010 season, some confusion has arisen as to the correct due date for team fees.

After careful consideration of the spirit of the relevant bylaw (ByLaw 16) and in an effort to allow as much time as possible for teams to collect fees, the Executive Committee have decided to set the due date for Winter fees to the September Committee Meeting (6 September). Even though this is after Round 8, the $10 late fee has been waived.

HOWEVER, all fees MUST be paid on or before this meeting, otherwise teams WILL be placed on the debtors register and all wins declared forfeits, as per ByLaw 19, if fees are not received by the close of the meeting on September 6.

Regards,

Matt Kendrick
ACTEBA Vice-President

State Trials: 2010 Masters Singles Round 1 Results

Today saw the first round of the 2010 Masters Singles at The Maram. With the field split into 2 groups this year, it would leave the Top 4 from each group to play tomorrow in a battle for the 4 spots in the 2010 ACT Masters Team.

Group One included the defending champion, Tolly Auva’a, three time runner up Ted Mallowes and 2006 runner up Neil Whitbread. But Group Two held the advantage with triple champion Jack Dehm, double champion Rolf Bandte, 2008 champion Kev Harrow and 2007 champion Pete Smith. Despite this, Mongrel entered Group One as the rookie, joining Vince Wood in the “juniors” category. Continue reading

Results: 2010 Winter Round 2

Hi all,

Results are below and attached, but given so many of you are starting to ask about the Open Doubles event, I thought I’d advise everyone of the format we’re going with for this year. This is a bit of a change from previous years, and a bit more cut-throat, but this is mainly due to the record high number of teams… 82 of them!

Round 1 – 7/8 Aug: Top 2 seeds (Anthony Chia & Colin Gamble and Michael Hazilias & Rony Sood) have a bye; leaving 10 groups of 8 teams, playing a full round robin 3 times. Each team (assuming everyone turns up) will get 21 frames. The top 3 teams progress to round 2.

Round 2 – 14/15 Aug: Top 2 seeds join 30 qualifiers, leaving 4 groups of 8 teams, playing a full round robin 3 times, with the top 3 teams progressing to round 3. Each team should get 21 frames.

Round 3 – 22/23 Aug: Top 12 (and final) over 2 days. Full round robin 3 times, playing two rounds on the Sat and one on the Sun, with the top 3 teams making the playoff. Team that qualifies 1st is automatically into the final, with 2nd playing 3rd and the winner playing 1st in the state doubles final.

Open Singles spots – a reminder that anyone that made the top 16 in the Open state selection trials and was subsequently offerred a spot in the Singles event at the National Championships needs to confirm whether they are going to go… ASAP.

And now for the results (last weeks incorrect result between the Jets and the Demons has been amended): Continue reading

Nationals: Open Singles positions

Quick reminder: players that have been offered places in the Open Singles tournament at the AEBF Nationals should respond to their offer letters no later than Monday 26th, otherwise their positions may be offered to the next available player on the order of merit.

State Trials: 2010 Ladies Doubles Round 1 Results

This weekend saw the first round of the 2010 Ladies Doubles, held at The Maram. With 9 starters after a late withdrawal, Cindy Blackmore & Nicole Welsh were looking to extend their title run to four straight, and seven overall. But standing in their way were the 2006 Champions, Kylie Power & Les O’Connor, 2008 runners up Ann Peffer & Cath Rollinson, Kathy Harmon & Theresa Whitten (both former champions), last year’s 3rd place finishers Alison Murphy & Theresa Skipper, Heather Robertson & Penny Foudoulis (7th/8th in the Ladies Singles), Melissa Chapelli & Olivia Ott (5th last year), Lee Love & Michelle Massey (former and current Top 12 qualifiers) and first time participants Margaret Auvaa & Tammie Ashlin.
