Wednesday Night Comps at The Maram

Need a fix for those Wednesday Night off season blues? You can tell your wife/husband the eight ball comp is still going…

The Maram is holding eight ball comps on Wednesday nights for the next 8 weeks starting at 7pm. There will be two comps with entry fees of $5 and $20. All entry fees are split between the finalists and an additional $50 bar tab will be awarded to the winner of each comp.

Come on down and put your money where your pool cue is to win $$$.

Be sure to check out pool comps at other ACTEBA supporting venues for some great practice.

State Trials: 2010 Open Singles Round 1 Groups

UPDATE – *Correct* venues and start times are now in the spreadsheet. Check groups carefully as I have had to make some adjustments. If you downloaded this spreadsheet before noon on Wed 12 May, please download it and check it again.

Start Times for Venues:
Ojo’s Cafe and Bar – 10am
Labor Club Belconnen – 10am
The Maram – 11am
The Basement – 11am
Kaleen Tavern – 11am

Hi all

Please find below the groups for Round One of the Open Singles, as well as the 32 seeds. You will notice that venues have not yet been added, as these will be finalised in the next few days, however I thought people might at least like to know when and who they will be playing.

With a record number of 180 entries this year, round one has been extended from the usual 16 groups to 18. The Top 4 from each group still qualify, which means qualifiers for Round Two have been increased from 64 to 72 to accommodate this as well.

The link to the spreadsheet is available by clicking through to the full article.

Winter Competition 2010

The Winter Competition has been pushed back a week against its original start date. Initially there was a two week break for the Nationals after Round One of the Finals. The decision to place the break there was based on the timing of the Champion of Champions tournament.

At last night’s State Executive Meeting, the captains agreed that it was preferable to have the break in between the final round of the regular season and the commencement of the finals series. This means that the dates for the Winter Comp and the Champion of Champions have both been changed by one week.

The Winter Competition will now start on July 14. The calendar on the website has been updated.

Nominations for the Winter Comp are still due at next month’s meeting (June 7) and the captains packs will be available at the July meeting.

Due to a couple of teams withdrawing this season, the number of teams currently registered is 41. This means there will more than likely be only 5 divisions again next season and there is a chance a team may miss out. While I will try to avoid this, I am also wary of avoiding the amount of byes we have this season. In lieu of this, no late nominations will be accepted. Please organise a practice session / bbq / tupperware party with your team in the next few weeks to get the sheet signed so you don’t miss out.

(I will send out the nomination form tonight. Matt K – can you please add to the web once received?)

2010 Summer Finals Round 1: Draw

Hi all

What a close finish to a few of the divisions!

The Finals are here and for those first timers, as well as a few regulars who would like a reminder, the Finals run on a double elimination draw, which basically means you have to lose twice before you are knocked out. The first two rounds are played at the home venue of the team ranked higher on the ladder, whereas the Preliminary Finals and Grand Finals will be held at neutral venues. (sample draw is below)

Results: 2010 Summer Round 13

Hi all,

Apologies for being a bit late, I had to chase up a few results. With 1 week to go, the top 4 look decided in only 2 divisions… 3rd and 5th, and have you ever seen a division closer than division 1 after 13 rounds… amazing… Continue reading
