Presentation Night – 2014 Season

Hi all,

The ACTEBA Presentation Night for the 2014 seasons is to be held at The Top Of The Cross, Southern Cross Club, Woden, on Saturday 21 February 2015. I anticipate a 6.30 start for a 7pm three course meal. I’ll confirm that in due course.

All members of the Association are invited to attend with partners and/or guests. The Association is once again subsidising the cost for all members and I’m pleased to say that the cost will be only $25 per head. Non members will have to pay the full cost of $49 per head. I strongly encourage you all to attend, especially all those in line for trophies. Trophies and/or medallions will be presented to all grand finalists, also winners and runner-ups of the various singles, doubles and junior tournaments. The Richard Taliferro Award for Sportsperson of the Year will also be presented – see my separate e-mail regarding nominations and voting.

It’s usually a great night out, let’s make this one the best ever. Come dressed as your team if you like, or dress your table up. There will be prizes for the best dressed individual and the best dressed table. For example, the Gringos could all wear Mexican hats, or the Embalmers could have a mini coffin on their table. Use your imaginations! This could be more challenging for some teams than others – what the #*@* is a Schroompton?
There will also be a lucky door prize.

Please try to organise within your own teams the numbers coming and advise me as soon as possible, preferably by the February captains meeting (note that the Feb meeting has been put back one week – it will be on Monday the 9th). Please also try to collect monies yourselves and deposit them as a team payment into the ACTEBA account (details on our website). This greatly simplifies things for our treasurer Kath Harmon and will save her lots of time.

Any questions please contact me on the number below.

Thank you, look forward to seeing you all there.

Cheers

Chisolm Tavern DOTS – 2014 Champions of Champions

Hi All,

The final of the 2014 Champion of Champions Tournament was held on Wednesday night at the Fyshwick Tavern, and congratulations to the Chisolm Tavern DOTS who emerged as convincing winners over Ojo’s KAOS by 15 frames to 5. Off the stick it was 11-5 and with the 4 frame advantage to the DOTS the teams called a halt once a KAOS victory became impossible.

A very good performance by the 4th division summer premiers against a top 2nd division side and proof, if needed, that the gap between divisions is getting smaller all the time.

Congratulations to all the teams that qualified for this year’s tournament and thanks to players and spectators for making it a success. A big thanks also to all the venues that hosted matches – Kaleen Bar & Bistro, Chisolm Tavern, The Basement and Fyshwick Tavern.

Once again, the final result

Chisolm Tavern DOTS 15 def Ojo’s KAOS 5

That wraps up the 2014 ACTEBA match program, thanks to all involved for making it a success. The 2015 summer season kicks off in January, and Tournament Director Matt Harmon has asked me to remind you that team nominations are due by next Monday’s Captain’s meeting.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

2014 Champion of Champions Semi Final Results, Grand Final info

Hi All,

The semi finals of the Champion of Champions tournament were held this week. On Tuesday night the Chisolm Tavern DOTS met the Mooseheads Rangers with the Rangers keen to reverse some recent losses to the DOTS. Unfortunately for them it wasn’t to be, with the DOTS prevailing with a 16 – 9 victory. Last night in a game destined to cause debate Ojo’s KAOS scraped in over the Labor Club Toros 15 – 14.

So we’re set for what I think will be an intriguing grand final next week at the Fyshwick Tavern, representing 4th Division the very experienced DOTS side with a 4 frame headstart over the wily 2nd Division KAOS team.

Summing up:

DOTS 16 def Rangers 9
KAOS 15 def Toros 14

Grand final Wednesday 26 November 2014, Fyshwick Tavern, breaking at 8.00pm

Chisolm Tavern DOTS (+4) vs Ojo’s KAOS

Good luck to both teams, I’ll be there, hope to see many others as well.

Cheers

Champion of Champions update

Hi all,

Firstly apologies for getting a little mixed up last week – Neil & Bob did in fact have a +2 frame handicap and Rangers advantage was +4 not +6. Thankfully those playing knew better than me…

And the Rangers used their advantage to record a 16 – 13 win over the DV8’s in what was obviously a tight match at Chisolm Tavern. Over at Fyshwick the Dots beat Neil & Bob 17 – 10, and in the battle of the 1st division premiers at The Basement the Toros recorded a convincing 13 – 8 win over the Hammerheads, looks like they applied the mercy rule once the game was decided.

Just four teams left, next weeks matches are:

Dots vs Rangers at the Basement, both 4th div premiers so no handicaps

Toros vs KAOS at Fyshwick Tavern, KAOS with a +4 advantage

Good luck, and don’t forget to send your results straight to me on 0409471691 rather than Matt Harmon (text messages only – I don’t have a smartphone).

Cheers

Adjuducators Comp Results

Better late than never, I haven’t had the chance to send out results from last weekends Adjudicators Comp.

There was 18 players and we ran a race to 22 handicapped comp as in format below.

It was a fun day and I would like to congratulate Ann Moimoi for taking out 1st prize.

The prize money was paid down to 4th spot. Jo Lowry picked up 2nd, Paul Berger 3rd and Kathy Harmon 4th.

Once again, a huge thanks to everyone that helped out and adjudicated during the 2014 trials. I hope to have a similar incentive for players during next years trials.
