Results: 2009 Winter Preliminary Finals and Grand Final Draw

Hi all

Last night saw the end of the season for 5 more teams, while 5 others qualified for the Grand Finals in 3 weeks time.

Congratulations must go to the Stickmen, Scorpions, Crackpots, Gringos and Defenestraters on their 3rd place finish this season. Once again, I am sure these teams will be eager to improve in this next year.

But most of all congratulations to our 10 Grand Finalists. With a three week gap to the Grand Final because of the Nationals, it will be interesting to see who can keep their form going during the break.

Below are the results for the Preliminary Finals, along with the schedule for the Grand Finals. Please note that at this stage I can only confirm the venues for 1st and 4th Divisions, I will confirm the others closer to the date.

In the meantime, don’t forget the Nationals start this Sunday with the Opening Ceremony at Rydges Lakeside. It costs nothing to watch, so come along and see the best Eight Ball in the country.

Results: 2009 Winter Finals Round Two and Venues for Preliminary Finals

Hi all

Last Wednesday saw all 5 Minor Premiers qualify first for the Grand Final, the Pirates winning 15-14 over the Crackpots after 2 draws in the regular season! With Div 3 being tight all season, the finals are proving no different with the Demons winning the other match 13-11.

This week saw the Matildas (who went down 12-15 in the other playoff for the week), Filthy Wanderers, Cougars, Motley Cues and Quick Silvers all bow out after good seasons. Well done to these teams for their 4th place finish and good luck next year!

The results for Round 2 are below, with the draw and venues for the Preliminary Finals after them. Remember as the PF is a neutral match, teams must toss a coin (or jenkins, or whatever) to decide the home team on the score sheet. Good luck to all teams next week.

Update – my apologies to The Maram Concords, who have qualified first for the Div 5 GF after finishing equal 3rd in regular season.

Minutes: Sep 2009

Minutes from the September 2009 Captains Meeting have been posted on the Minutes page.

Special General Meeting: seeking support

As was discussed at the AGM, Doug Percy will be standing down as President of ACTEBA at the completion of the nationals.

It was agreed that as the role of President is a significant position within the association all financial members should be granted the opportunity to be involved in the selection. Please note I am not proposing any individuals for this role at this time. Nominations may be made to the Secretary of the association.

Therefore in accordance with the ACTEBA consitution I am seeking support for a Special General Meeting to be held prior to the Captains meeting on 9/11/09 (Note the Captains Meeting has been delayed until the second Mon in November).

Please contact me if you are in support of this motion. I will require confirmation by email no later than Fri 9 October 2009. Please use the new Contact Form to send me an email.

Div 5 3rd Place Playoff

Hi all

Last night the Maram Concords defeated the Earls of Erindale 15-12 in a playoff for 3rd. After 14 rounds both teams had finished on equal points, and then still couldn’t be separated by a playoff match, forcing a further best of 5 playoff, which the Concords duly won 3-0.

The draw for Division 5 tomorrow night now reads:

5th Division

Darcy’s Defenestraters vs Earls of Erindale @ Kaleen Tavern

Mercury Bar Quick Silvers vs The Maram Concords @ Mercury Bar

Good luck to all teams tomorrow night.

Regards

Results: 2009 Winter Round 14

Hi all

What a finish to the season! While Division 1 threw up no surprises, every other division brought about a final round that changed the finals make up.

But first of all, congratulations to The Maram Rail Runners on a perfect season. 14 wins from 14 games is an outstanding effort and good luck to them in the finals series.

Div 2 saw the Pidos go down to the Stars, handing the Stars 7th after the Katz lost, plus allowing the Scorpions to grab 2nd.

The top 2 teams in 3rd division were playing for the Minor Premiership tonight, but the top 4 was so tight that the loser was a big chance of finishing 4th after dominating all year. To quote one reporting captain, “you couldn’t write this script”, the Pirates and the Crackpots drew to hold onto their top 2 spots, despite the Demons and Cougars both winning their final games and finishing a mere 1 point back, the top four finishing 26, 26, 25, 25. Can’t wait for that finals series!

4th Div saw the Deep Pockets steal a home final as the Gringos went down.

A loss to the Quick Silvers saw the Defenestraters take out div 5 by 3 points, but it came down to percentages otherwise. In fact, 3rd and 4th (Earls and Concords) finished on equal points and frames, resulting in a playoff for 3rd next Monday night.

Commiserations to the teams who missed out this season – we know you’ll be hungry to get there next year. In the meantime, come down and a watch a finals match or two and cheer on your mates from the other teams.

The draw for Round One of the Finals is below, can all home captains please inform their venue of the match.

A reminder that these matches are a race to 13, no need to keep playing once a team has reached that mark. Should the match end in a draw, both team captains need to provide the other captain with a list of 5 players (in playing order) for a race to 3 playoff. These 5 players must play in the order that is given to the opposing captain. The result of the playoff is then added to the final result, i.e. if you win the playoff 3-1, the final score is 15-13. Any queries on this feel free to call me.

Umpires Workshop

The next umpires workshop will be on Saturday (26 September) at the Maram from 1:30pm.

We will look at some obscure situations and have lots of practice (and run exams for anyone who hasn’t done one yet).

Please come along if you are available – this is likely to be the 2nd last workshop before the nationals.

I still need at least 10 more umpires; if you know anyone who might be interested, please let them know.
