Too good to be true you ask? Apparently not.
Rolf sends word that The Maram are currently offering free pool and $2.50 schooners from 3-6pm, Mondays-Fridays.
For those lucky enough not to be doing the Dolly Parton 9 – 5 thing, get down there and support one of Canberra’s larger 8-ball venues.
Nominations for the 2010 Summer Competition are due at the December Captains’ Meeting (Monday 7th).
I will have the Calendar published prior to the December meeting.

Nicole has capped a successful 2009 Nationals with Selection in the 2010 Australian Ladies Eight Ball Team. This is Nicole’s third selection in the national side and comes after captaining the ACT Ladies Team to their best ever result, as well as finishing 5th in the players stats for the Ladies. Nicole was also equal 1st for the Ladies in Master Breaks. In a great result for Nicole and the ACT, she was the third player selected.
Steve, while playing for NSW this year, has now made his 4th national side as the 5th player selected. Steve’s selection comes on the back of shooting 4th best in the stats and 3rd best in Master Breaks. Steve also made it to Round of 16 in the Singles.
Well done Nicole and Steve!
Last night’s Grand Finals saw mixed results, with 2 runaway victories coupled with 3 close finishes.
Division 1 had two old foes aiming up and went down to the wire, with the Embalmers emerging victorious 13-11 over the Hammerheads after narrowly avoiding a playoff. I don’t have my records here at work, but I am pretty sure that makes four in a row for the Fyshwick Tavern outfit. Continue reading
Venues for Grand Finals have been confirmed:
Div 1 – Fyshwick Tavern
Div 2 – Labor Club
Div 3 – Chisholm Tavern
Div 4 – The Maram
Div 5 – Ojo’s Bar and Cafe

Last night the Open team came agonizingly close to making the finals, losing 13-11 to NSW in their last match after earlier handing the Vics their first defeat of the tournament. It was a great effort by the team and shows promise of what to expect in future years.
The Ladies play Victoria in their semi final at midday today, and if successful they will qualify for the Preliminary final at 4pm. I will post the result of the semi as soon as I know it.
Final Score – ACT 6 – 13 Victoria (race to 13)
Well done to the Ladies Team on a great effort in achieving the highest finish by an ACT side at the Nationals!

All three ACT teams have a chance to record their highest finish at the Nationals today, with the Ladies and Open Teams playing to maintain their places in the top 4. Both teams have previously finished 5th but never made the finals.
Yesterday the Masters finished in 5th spot, a great improvement from last place in 2008.
At the time of writing, the Ladies hold a 2 point lead on the ladder over WA, with both teams playing teams lower on the ladder than they are in their final round – I will update when I get a result.
UPDATE: the Ladies won their final round match which guarantees them 3rd place on the ladder! Well done Ladies!
The Open are playing their last two round robin matches this afternoon at 2pm and 4.30pm, and currently hold a 1 point lead over WA and Tassie, who are set to play each other in the last round. ACT have 1st placed Victoria followed by 7th place NSW, which could be the deciding match.

Well done to Cindy Blackmore on reaching the Round of 16 in the Ladies Singles! Cindy will be playing at 9am on Saturday, so come down and cheer our last remaining singles player.
Meanwhile, all three teams scored wins yesterday, keeping the Ladies in 3rd spot and the Open in equal 4th, just 2 points behind 2nd place.
