Hi all
Round 2 of the Open Doubles was held over the weekend, with some extremely good play and tight groups resulting in some tense finishes.
In fact, one group came down to the second last frame of the day with a chance of a four way playoff! That didn’t happen, but the last frame still gave a chance of a three way playoff, which once again didn’t eventuate. Still, it was a close thing…
Well played to the teams who missed out this week – the 16 who made it through are looking at a tough challenge next week!
Below are the results from Round 2 and the groups for Round 3.

Hi all
With a record 74 pairs taking part this year, round one of the Open Doubles was held over the weekend.
The weekend was enjoyed by all with a great atmosphere at the groups I attended, as well as some top eight ball (and some not-so-pretty stuff as well…).
Attached are the results for Round One. Note that the Top 3 qualified from each group. Round Two, to be held this weekend 15/16 August, includes the introduction of the top 8 seeds to make it interesting. I will send these groups out later this afternoon once they are finalised.
There will be four groups of 8 in Round Two, with the Top 4 qualifying in each group for round 3. It will be played over 3 round robins as usual.
Well done to all pairs who qualified, and well played to the pairs who missed in out in what was a tough qualifying format.

Hi all
[UPDATED]: Venue info is now available.
Below are the groups for round 1 of the Open Doubles, to be played next weekend 8/9 August.

The seedings are based on the rankings points accumulated in the 2007/08 Open Doubles by both players in each pair, regardless of partner. The Top 8 seeds each receive a bye for round 1.
The start time is 10.30am for all groups except group 4 (Sunday @ The Basement, which will start at 11am), with tables open from 10am. We will be playing 3 round robins, with the Top 3 to qualify for round 2.
Yes the Top 3 is different to other tournaments but the large number of pairs (74) has necessitated this. Rounds 2 and 3 will be contested in groups of 8 with the top 4 advancing as per usual.
Dates for the remaining rounds are as follows (please be available both days if you expect to make each round as there will be no preferred days given):
• August 15/16 – Round 2 (24 qualifiers plus top 8 seeds) 4 groups of 8.
• August 22/23 – Round 3 (16 qualifiers) 2 groups of 8.
• Saturday August 29 – Top 8
• Sunday August 30 – Top 4 and Final.
Venues will be finalised in the next day or so. Please note that I will not be able to accommodate any switches to the groups this tournament.
The Top 8 seeds are:
1 – Anthony Chia & Colin Gamble
2 – Nicole Welsh & Semisi Naupoto
3 – Bob Sifri & Edmund Chen
4 – Ian Stanley & Ted Mallowes
5 – Peter Madden & Peter Penfold
6 – Dean Welsh & Phil Bailey
7 – Phillip Thorp & Simon Wade
8 – Michael Hazilias & Rony Sood
