State Trials: 2010 Open Singles Round Two Groups

Hi all

Drum roll please…

And now the moment a record 72 of you have been waiting for – the groups for Round Two. With 33 seeds and 72 qualifiers, we still have an unbelievable 105 players left after round one this year. Well done to all qualifiers and good luck for this weekend.

[UPDATE]: The spreadsheet has been updated with adjudicator’s names.

I have 3 challenges for players this weekend, each worth a case of beer:

1. Anyone who can beat Ben Wales’ shot against Brendon Smith last weekend. (Ben was the “unknown player” in last week’s summary)

2. With 32 frames to be played each, anyone who can crack the 30 frame mark.

3. Any player who will allow me to beat them 4 out of 4.

I must reiterate that any player not present at the time that the first frame of the day is called will be disqualified. If you have a legitimate reason for why you are running late please call myself on 0403 545 619 BEFORE THE START OF PLAY to state your case. Any calls after the start of play will be dismissed unless you can present a strong case.

Please note that out of the three trials years I have done, this season has been by far the most difficult (Matt Power can attest to this by the amount of emails we’ve exchanged) and any requests for change of day or venue will unfortunately be impossible to accommodate. I hope players can understand…

One last technicality – in recent years we have had instances of no shows in a venue with more than one group and yeah, one group has 9 while the other has 6 or 7. For Round Two, this will only affect The Maram, but if one of the groups of 9 has two no shows, the lowest ranked player from another group will be moved to this group to make the two groups even with 8 each. Adjudicators – please contact me immediately if this occurs as this is a decision I have taken in the interests of the tournament not in how quickly your group will run or how “fair” you may think it is.

Attached are the groups and venues for Round Two – NOTE that the starting time for the Labor Club is 10am rather than 11am for the other groups.

Again, good luck for the weekend and buy your adjudicator a drink – they are the reason you are able to be competing.
