The final round for selection in the 2011 ACT Ladies Team was held this weekend at The Maram. The field included defending Champion Nicole Welsh, as well as former Ladies Singles Champions Cindy Blackmore, Theresa Whitten and Lesieli O’Connor. Backing up from last year’s Top 12 were Michelle Massey, Penny Foudoulis, Heather Robertson and Jennifer Everett. Ann Peffer, Kathy Harmon and Theresa Skipper made welcome returns to the Top 12, while Tammie Ashlin was the sole newcomer.
With 6 of last year’s brilliant Ladies Team in the field, as well as the player who withdrew due to injury, the quality of the Top 12 was as high as ever. With the Top 4 to qualify for next week’s State Title Top 4 Shootout, and the Top 7 to be offered places in the 2011 ACT Ladies State Team, the format for the weekend was four round robins of 11 frames apiece, for a total of 44 frames. Last night’s matches saw:
– two matches go into overtime,
– four minor premiers progress straight to the grand finals (all but 5th div),
– one 4th placed team (who scraped into the finals) progress to the GF (Bombers),
– three 4th placed teams bite the dust (Matildas, Katz and Pains),
– one team that finished the season in 2nd (Demons) eliminated, and
– one minor premier (Mooseheads) gooooooone (ouch)!

2011 ACTEBA Ladies Doubles Champions

Congratulations to Cindy and Nicole on their 5th consecutive Ladies Doubles title, and their 9th overall as a pair. Cindy also boasts a further 5 titles with other partners, while Nicole has won all nine of her doubles titles with Cindy. It was hard to see these two hall of famers being topped this weekend, but as it unfolded, they didn’t have it all their own way.

Last night saw one 4th-placed team upset the minor premiers (5th div) and three 3rd-placed teams defeat the 2nd placed team. Next week, the winners play each other with the winner through to the Grand Final, and the losers play each other and the loser eliminated. Being in “the zone” or “playing out of one’s mind” when you’re playing pool or snooker is an exhilarating stage of our play, and sometimes it’s hard to find ourselves there again. There is no interference from conscious thought, we lose ourselves in the action and continually breaking the false limits placed on our potential. I would like to get a group together and meet on a regular basis. The aim of the group is to assist players’ in their mental approach, and be the best they can be. It would only benefit players who practise SOLO regularly and are very familiar with their own games.

Hi all,
After some very tense moments last night, with some teams trying their darndest to squeeze into the top 4, whilst others were desperately trying to hang onto their position and make sure they play next week, the results saw an amazing three teams make a last minute move from 5th into 4th place, being the Matildas in Div 1, Pains in Div 4 and the Uni Bombers in Div 5 (commiserations to the Snipers, Budgie Smugglers and Balls Deep All Stars). The finals start next week, with 1st playing 4th, and 2nd playing 3rd. In general, these matches will be played at the home ground of the 1st and 2nd teams, however all matches and venues will be confirmed shortly.
Please note the percentages in the ladder take into account some frame adjustments that were required due to many forfeits this season (the spreadsheet shows the ladder after round 14 before these adjustments and after, in case anyone is particularly interested).
