State of Origin Venues Divs 1 and 2

Venues for the deciding State of Origin matches are confirmed!

As we hopefully anticipated, our two premier venues have agreed to host two of the most important matches in the calendar, the Division 1 and Division 2 State of Origin matches.

Next week, Fyshwick Tavern will host the all important Division 2 match, while Canberra Labor Club will see the deciding Division 1 match to crown the 2011 Champion.

Every frame in this series is important as the next, be it div 6 or div 1, and the matches so far have been hotly contested. Now it is time for the big guns to have their turn. Whether your team has the lead, or if you need the State Team regulars to make up a few for you, this will be the best Eight Ball you will see outside the Top 16. In fact, given the pride that is at stake, I reckon it might just rival it…

And remember, each of these div 1 and 2 players is playing alongside you all to defeat the enemy that is the Nor – oh yeah, I forgot, impartial Tournament Director and all that…

So come and have a gander at some top quality Eight Ball, and see the Southern Guns walk away with the trophy… (oh crap I’m supposed to be impartial aren’t I… hey it’s my last season – GO THE GUNS!!!)

Results: 2011 State of Origin Div 6 and 5

Hi all,

Last night saw the first night of the State of Origin series for 2011. For the first time ever (I think), we held two matches at the same venue (the Basement) on the same night. The atmosphere was great, with loud support going all night and the matches were both very competitive. Results were:

Div 6: Northern Potters def Southern Guns 20-12
Div 5: Northern Potters drew with Southern Guns 16-16

Next week sees both divisions 3 and 4 play at the Maram (Wednesday, 8pm). If you’re not playing, why not come down to check out the action. If you are playing, make the most of it, as this series is awesome! Go Potters!

State Trials: 2011 Masters Singles

The 2011 ACT Masters Singles is being held this weekend at The Maram.

With 17 entries this year, we are continuing with the format of splitting the field into two groups of 8 and 9, with seedings based on last year’s results. Each group will play 4 round robins instead of the 3 trialled last year.

The Top 4 from each group qualify for the Top 8 to be played on the Sunday. At the end of the Top 8, the Top 4 qualifiers will receive invitations to the 2011 ACT Masters Team, while the Top 2 will play a race to 5 Final for the 2011 ACT Masters Singles Title.

Play commences at 11am on both days, with tables open from 10.30 for practice.

Good luck to all players this weekend.

State Trials: 2011 Ladies Singles Top 12

The final round for selection in the 2011 ACT Ladies Team was held this weekend at The Maram. The field included defending Champion Nicole Welsh, as well as former Ladies Singles Champions Cindy Blackmore, Theresa Whitten and Lesieli O’Connor. Backing up from last year’s Top 12 were Michelle Massey, Penny Foudoulis, Heather Robertson and Jennifer Everett. Ann Peffer, Kathy Harmon and Theresa Skipper made welcome returns to the Top 12, while Tammie Ashlin was the sole newcomer.

With 6 of last year’s brilliant Ladies Team in the field, as well as the player who withdrew due to injury, the quality of the Top 12 was as high as ever. With the Top 4 to qualify for next week’s State Title Top 4 Shootout, and the Top 7 to be offered places in the 2011 ACT Ladies State Team, the format for the weekend was four round robins of 11 frames apiece, for a total of 44 frames.
