2012 State of Origin: Div 1 and Overall Results

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay, but the result from Wednesday night’s Div 1 State of Origin match was:

Southern Guns 19 def Northern Potters 13

Going into the match, the Potters held an almost unasailable lead of 28 frames, however this was a match that both teams wanted to win. After a see-sawing first round, the score was tied at 4-4. The Potters then stepped up to the plate to race to a 10-6 lead at the main break.

However, not sure what went wrong from there for the (now) series champions, with the Guns winning the 3rd round 6-2 to tie the match 12 all at the last change, and running away with the match in the last round to win it 7 frames to 1.

Nevertheless, a great series (for the Potters) sees them go out winners with the total frames being Northern Potters 91 defeating Southern Guns 69. Congratulations Tolly and all Potters!

Cheers,

Matt Power

2012 State of Origin: Div 3 and 2 Results

[edit: next week’s Div1 match is at Chisholm Tavern, not Labor Club.]

Match report from Wednesday’s SoO clash, sent in by Tolly:

-=-=-=-=-=-

Kaleen Pub/ Bar was the venue for the next CLASH between the Southern Guns and the Northern Potters.
WOW! Where do I begin? OK, Div 3 first.

Trent and I went head to head in this Div as we were also players in our respective teams.

The Guns had us in the first 3 frames of rnd 1 but warming up to the occaision, the Potters came in to contention with 4 frames from the next 5…end of rnd 1 we are locked at 4/4.

Rnd 2 was a ‘seesawing affair’ with both sides ‘grappling’ for the lead…end of rnd 2, we are still tied 8/8.

The 3rd rnd was a good one for the Potters, as we saw 5 frames come our way from the 8 on offer…score, 13/11.

WHO could have ‘predicted’ the final rnd? I would have come close, but as good as my line up was, against an equally as talented Guns ‘brigade’, I couldn’t have stated for sure that we would be undefeated in this rnd. ‘PROPS’ to the Potters…final score, 21/11.

Div 2 was lead by Steve Phillips – Guns, and Jason Davis – Potters.
Both co-capt’s did exceptionally well in their roles as capt, especially Steve who captained 2nd Div whilst also playing for the Guns in 3rd Div. I like your style mate.

Rnd 1 had exactly the same result as Div 3, the two sides vying for the lead ‘toe to toe’…4/4.

Rnd 2 was also a near perfect ‘mirrored’ image of the Div 3 match…dead heat, 8/8.

How tense was the Competition you ask? Ask Troy Miller, he was using my ‘head’ to warm his hands…I was ‘hot’ for some reason? Maybe it was the excitement of the night??!! Am I getting a little ‘off’ track here? WHO KNOWS! Back to the report….

….rnd 3 saw the Potters take the ‘horse’ by the ‘reins’, and edge their way ahead to a 4 frame lead…14/10.

Rnd 4 was a WINNER for the Guns, as they collected 6 frames from the final 8…final score 16/16.

What a great series this has been!

Trent, I know that you are not sitting in the most favourable position in our State of Origin ‘clash’, but I would hope that you would agree with me mate that we have seen a lot of ‘good’ if not ‘great’ eightball games played. Players from both sides have come to SoO knowing the importance of their selection and really played to the best of their ability and knowledge. We can’t ask for anymore than that.

Matt Powers and Joe Stephens, you guys are to be credited for your job as selectors! Job well done!

To everyone who came to support, thankyou kindly. You are the ones that give us the ‘mojo’ and ‘set’ the atmosphere.

Thanks to Trent Billington, Steve Phillips and the Guns players for your great sportsmanship.
The series so far has been fun and now we leave the FINAL ‘statement’ to be made by the 1st Div Teams.

GOOD LUCK to both sides next week and THANKYOU for having me as the Potters Capt. GO POTTERS!!!

Cheers,
Tolly Auva’a

The current score stands at Northside Potters 78, Southern Guns 50 – with only Division One left to play next Wednesday at Chisholm Tavern, it’s looking rather like the Northerners have our measure this year.

2012 State of Origin: Div 5 and 4 Results

Players,

Tolly has sent in the following match report from the Div 5 and 4 State of Origin clash last week:

-=-=-=-=-

The Basement was the venue for the first round of State of Origin and the atmosphere was pumping right from the word GO!
Both sides went through the formalities and then it was GAME ON!

5th Div was co-capt., by Marg for the Potters and Steve Phillips for the Gunners.

Leading the way for the 1st 3 frames were the Gunners, but Potters came back with there own 3 wins to level out the score before the Gunners came back to lead the first rnd 5/3.

First two frames into the 2nd rnd saw the Potters come back to once again level scores and then in the next 6 frames both sides winning 3 each to keep the scores level at 8 frames all.

3rd rnd, the MONEY rnd as a lot of us know it to be in eightball terms, was a near perfect rnd for the Potters with only one loss..end of rnd 3, Potters are in the lead 15/9.

Round 4 saw the Potters take out the next 5 frames before the Guns charged back to win the last 3 frames of the rnd. Good effort by the Gunners, but SORRY Guns, on this night NOT good enough..Final score – 20/12.

4th Div was a different ‘kettle of fish’. Much louder than 5th Div and I think drinking a LOT more grog, they were fairly much in CRUISE mode for the whole match.
Taking nothing away from the Gunners though, they gave the Potters some very challenging frames for the ‘taking’.

1st rnd had the Potters in a comfortable lead, but by no means were the Guns out of contention at this stage of the game..5/3.

The first 4 frames of rnd 2 – Potters, and then 3 out of the next 4 frames, went to the Guns..10/6 – Potters.

Round 3 saw the Potters take out the next 6 frames and the WIN..16/8.

Potters went on continuing as they started, racking up another 5 frames in the next 8..Final score – 21/11.

Commiserations to the Gunners, and major Congrats to the Potters!
Great team effort from both Divs and the ‘bar’ has now been set!
State of Origin is truly in ‘travel’ mode my friends, and we are in for a ‘cracker’ of a competition!

Thankyou to those who came to give support and don’t forget to come and support our 2nd and 3rd Div Teams next week at the Kaleen Pub.

Regards

Tolly Auva’a

[edit 11:30am: link fixed.]

Hi All,

Please find attached the groups for Round 3 of the 2012 ACTEBA Open Singles State Trials.

http://www.acteba.com.au/downloads/2012_open_singles_round3_groups.xls

In this round the top 32 seeds join the fray.

Please be aware that I have done my best to ensure as many people could be placed where they were requested. There were a lot of requests however, and I believe 2-3 people couldn’t be placed on the day they preferred. Unfortunately for those people there is nothing that can/will be done about it now. The groups are set.

Adjudicators will hopefully be confirmed tomorrow.

Have a good week,

Joe
