2023 State of Origin Match 2 – Results

Congratulations to the Southern Guns who won the second round of this year’s State of Origin 21-13! This was through dominance in the teams, winning three of the four matches, and across the singles/doubles where the result was 18-12. This means the Guns have a 2-0 series lead and the third round in November will be the chance for the Potters to try and save face.

There was a great atmosphere and energy in the room and certainly some fun pool to be had.

We are getting there in terms of getting this new format running smoothly. A couple of items that will be looked at for next time:
– A bit confusing when mixing teams and singles/doubles into a single session. While in the first round we did one type of event per session this does make the day go significantly longer so we will see what we can do.
– Get a running tally up on the big screen so that players can be more invested in the overall results

2023 Australia Cup

We are now taking entries for the 2023 Australia Cup selection trials.

Entry to the trials is via the Eventbrite page here: https://www.eventbrite.com/…/2023-acteba-australia-cup…

What is the Australia Cup?

The Australia Cup is an event that targets players who may not usually get the opportunity to play at Nationals, enabling better exposure to the pressures and quality of players around the country. While we don’t have specifics on dates yet, last year the Australia Cup was run alongside Nationals, and players could expect the dates to be somewhere around 18th-28th October at the Albury Commercial Club.

Eligibility

No eligibility requirements will be enforced for entry into the ACTEBA Trials event. However entrants are to note that once we have selected our team it will be submitted to the AEBF who will vet the entrants. At this stage we believe the only eligibility criteria are that you must have won less than 45% of your frames on average over your past three Nationals appearances.

Preferred day of play

There is no preferred day of play for this event. Players should expect to play both days.

Competition format

The final competition format will be determined based on the number of entries. Players should expect some sort of round robin that will take place over both days.

The top 12 players from the round robin will then be divided into two teams of 6 to play in the Australia Cup.

Play schedule

Play is likely to commence at 10am and finish around 5pm each day. Tables will be open half an hour before the expected starting time for practice.

ENTRIES CLOSE Tuesday 1st of August @ 7pm

We will be looking for at least two adjudicators – one for Saturday 5th August and one for Sunday 6th August.

Any further questions or clarifications please don’t hesitate to contact the Tournament Director.

2023 State of Origin Match 2

Saturday 22nd July, Harmonie German Club – 9:30am for a 10:00am start

What is it?
The State of Origin is a North vs South competition that is run three times throughout the year, taking the best ranked players from the latest Open Rankings from each division and geographical region pitting them against each other.

Current Scores
Back in February the Southern Guns won in a tight 18-16 victory for the first match leaving the 2023 series at 1-0.

Team Selection
Four players are selected per division, per region. This is done by selecting one female if one is available and then the top three players as per the rankings after that.

Schedule/Format
As per feedback from the first match the scheduling will be altered a little, but players can expect a 10.00am to 5.30pm day. The format will include a mixture of singles races, scotch doubles, and teams events. While there won’t be a stop to play there will be plenty of time throughout the day for food/drink/etc.
