Just providing an update on the Open Singles event and clarifying a few questions I have had.
First of all, thank you for all the feedback on the new format. I’ve had a huge amount of positive comments and the change seems to have provided a lot of excitement around the event. I’ve also received some negative comments regarding it as well….. but they are the minority and members seem to be happy with the change. Having said that members are welcome to provide their opinions and can contact me anytime.

To clarify a few details of the event…… this is a standalone event and is separate to the Open Trials Event. There will be another entry form for the Open Trials and entries for this event will open in May. So if you don’t play in the singles event you can still enter the trials event later in the year.
Yes, the Singles event is capped at 96 players….. this is required due to the time required to play the event and venue availability.
Due to the spots available outside the top 48 filling very quickly…. I have decided to run a qualifying day to get into the main draw. So effectively the even becomes open to all members, but adds an additional day of play for these players.
Click on following links to download current entries and also list of players that will be required to qualify. The way it will work is that any spots that become available from the Top 48 after entries close (last year 9 players ranked in the Top 48 didn’t enter), these spots will be played off for by the qualifiers e.g. if only 40 players from the Top 48 enter, this leaves 8 spots available….. the players on the qualifier list (currently 12 players) will play off for these 8 spots to join the main draw. The format for the qualifiers day will be determined once amount of players is confirmed.

So any players that are on the qualifiers list please be aware that you will be playing the week before the main event on Saturday the 13th (further details will come but this date is locked in). The venue will be either the Basement or Kaleen Tavern as the Harmonie German Club is not available on that day. I am also not available to adjudicate on this day, so will require an adjudicator to run the day.
Entries are still open….. if your ranked outside the Top 48 and you enter, you will automatically go onto the Qualifiers list and need to play on the 13/5/17.
There are only 17 players entered from the Top 48….. a reminder that your entries close on 28/4/17. This won’t be extended so if your entry is not in on this date you will lose your spot and will need to play on the qualifiers day
