Captain’s Meeting Wrapup

The January Captain’s Meeting was a fairly brief affair, as Doug, Kathy, Ted and Trent all sent apologies.

Click through for a detailed wrapup, and to find out why the draw isn’t available yet.

Minutes will be posted as soon as they’re ratified, but the main points covered were:

PRESENTATION NIGHT: Final numbers for Presentation Night (21 Feb) must be given to Kathy no later than the February meeting. Payment must be finalised by the March meeting. The cost is $24 for players and $34 for guests. All questions to Kathy Harmon.

UPDATED RULES: The World Eight-Ball Pool Federation has approved amendments to the World Eight-Ball Playing Rules, which came into effect as at 1 January 2009. Captains at the meeting were handed new copies of the rules, and they will be posted here shortly. Greg Murphy also reported that with a need for suitably knowledgeable and qualified referees at the Nationals, all efforts will be made to train and qualify local players.

SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD: As noted on the front page, nominations are open for the Richard Taliaferro Sportsperson of the Year Award. Nominations will remain open until January 31, and voting will remain open until 15 February. Click the link in the article at the top of the main page for more info.

NEW RANKINGS/DRAW: Chris reported that due to a slight stuff-up in the rankings calculations, the new draw is not yet ready, but will be completed by the end of this week, and sent to the email address listed at the top of each team sheet. (The draw, rankings, and updated scoresheet will also be posted here when available.)

THE VENUE: The venue formerly known as The Venue will be reopening under the new name “Maram” for business on February 1. As several teams are playing from there though, they will open the doors and tables on the 14th and 21st January, however they will be unable to serve alcohol as their liquor license does not come into effect until Feb 1.

FUNDRAISING: Cath Jones reported that with the Nationals coming up fast, there will be a number of fundraising initiatives this year, including a major raffle, the AFL/NRL tipping comps, and pool comps. If anyone has leads on raffle prizes, please contact Kath.
