It’s finally here! Trials season has started again after a 6 month break, Saturday seeing the running of Round 1 of the Ladies Singles State Trials. A few new players entered this year, giving us a field of 24 to play off for next weekend’s Top 12.The Maram hosted the day and, as always, the Ladies put on a great day for all involved. After 252 frames we were able to have a clear top 4 in each of the three groups, although one group did come down to the last frame of the day to decide 4th. In the end, though, we have a very different Top 12 from last year, with only 7 remaining from last year’s contestants. This can only prove that the outstanding performance of last year’s state team was influenced by the depth of talent the ACT ladies now enjoy.
In total we have 4 ladies contesting their first Top 12 next week (including one who was unable to compete the only time she made it previously). The weekend will be made up of 4 rounds of 11 frames for each player, with 2 rounds played each day. At the end of round 4, the top 7 ladies will receive an invitation to travel to Adelaide later this year as a member of the ACT Ladies Team, while the Top 4 will reconvene the following weekend to decide the 2010 ACTEBA Ladies Singles Champion.
With 3 former State Champions in the field, including Hall of Famer Cindy Blackmore, is 2010 the year for a new lady to come through the pack and cause an upset?
Come down to the Maram next weekend from 11am Saturday and Sunday to see the Ladies who finished an historic 4th place in last years Nationals, battle it out for the right to defend their fantastic result.
