The 2014 State Trial events have now come to an end after the completion of the double event on the weekend.
Dean Welsh and myself managed to take out the Title, defeating Mick Norton and Paul Carlile 7-1 in the final. Well done to Mick and Paul in making the final (in their 1st year as a pair I believe)
The top 8 on the Saturday was a very close battle all day and it was not until well into the final round till there was a clear top 4. The top 4 pairs being Mick & Paul, Dean & Matt, Mongrel & James and Brent & Jason returned on Sunday for a top 4 playoff for the State Title. Mick and Paul dominated the round robin stages of top 4 wining all their matches going straight into the Grand Final. It came down to the last match of the day to determine who played Mick & Paul in the final with all 3 pairs still having the chance to make it. Dean & myself managed to get over the line in our last match against Brent & Jason to proceed to the final.
In the final Mick & Paul got the opening frame continuing their good form from the round robin stages. Dean & I got our stuff together and evened it up at 1 all…… from there our form and confidence improved each game and managed to run away with the match 7 – 1. Commiseration to Mick & Paul, but as I mentioned great effort making the final and performing well throughout the tournament.

We only have a couple more events after the completion of the Winter comp. The Adjudicators Comp is scheduled for 1/11/14, Divisional Championships the following weekend 8/11/14 and Champion of Champions starts on 5/11/14.
I will send out the list of eligible entries for the Adjudicators Comp and also qualifiers for Divisional Championships over the next week. New Rankings will be issued soon after the completion of the winter comp regular rounds as well.
Thank you to all the people that have assisted with adjudicating, your time is very appreciated and has made my first year of being Tournament Director much easier.
Also a big thanks to the venues that continue to support ACTEBA and pool in Canberra. You open your doors earlier than normal and open the tables free of charge, and without this support ACTEBA would not exist. Special mentioned to Fyshwick Tavern, Kaleen Tavern, The Basement and The Labor Club who support our association every year…. thank you.
Regards,
Matt Harmon
