Results: 2009 State of Origin Division 3

Last night the division 3 Northern Potters clawed back some of the Southern Guns lead with a hard fought 18-14 win at Chisholm Tavern.

The Potters gained an early 2 frame lead and held it through to half time. Then a big 6-2 third round saw them jump 6 frames clear and within reach of the Guns overall 8 frame lead.

The Guns fought back in the last round but it was always going to be the Potters victorious. With just 4 frames in it heading into the top 2 divisions, the Guns leading 50-46, it promises to be a great finish!

2009 Open Singles: Round 3 info

After having a couple of goes at the groups for round 3 last night and today, it is increasingly obvious that I will not be able to accommodate preferred days of play this round.

If any players have a desperate need to stick to their preferred day, call me before lunchtime Thursday (June 4) on 0403 545 619 and I will see what I can do. Be warned that I cannot make any promises.

I will be sending the groups to the webmaster at 1pm Thursday for publishing and any changes after that time will need to be organised by the players and approved by myself.

Please note that venues and start times will be confirmed by next Monday (June 8).

Gah, the colours!

I’m playing with the colour values and things for links displayed on the site, in an effort to make the links stick out a bit more. I’ve also turned on displaying underlined links. Check out the poll and let me know what you think.

Results: 2009 Open Singles Round 2

Hi all

Another round has been completed on our way to the 2009 ACTEBA Open Singles Champion and Open State Team qualifiers. And some interesting results occurred, with a few players surprising even themselves and others not quite hitting the balls the way they wanted…

With the top 32 seeds entering come round 3, I’ve always seen rounds 1 and 2 as a sort of mini tounament in itself, with 131 players playing for 32 spots. So I guess with round 3 imminent, I must thank all the players who took part in the first rounds for some entertaining days and great standard of play. The groups I saw over the two rounds were competitive and enjoyable, scary to think the play only gets better from here.

Congratulations to the qualifiers this week and thank you to the adjudicators for their time and effort.

A quick note – I will release the groups and days of play in the next day or so, however you will notice that there is one group of 9. This is because I made a slight miscalculation and wound up with 33 seeds by mistake.

Don’t forget that nominations for the Summer Competition are due at the meeting tonight.

Results: 2009 State of Origin Division 4

The Southern Guns won the Division 4 match 18-14 last night after being neck and neck for much of the first 3 rounds.

This gives the Guns a 36-28 lead in the series over the Northern Potters.

Come down to Chisholm Tavern next Wednesday to see if the Div 3 Potters can narrow the gap!

Results: 2009 Open Singles Round 1

The 2009 Open Singles State Title and Selection Trials are under way! The 2 days of this wekend saw 6 venues host 122 players for a total of 1,236 frames.

All reports from the adjudicators were of smoothly run days, which is a credit to all players involved. Unfortunately there were a number of early withdrawals, which can’t be helped, but also a number of no shows, which did lead to some unbalanced groups (one group only had 4 players!). Nevertheless, all 64 players who qualified for Round 2 did extremely well to get there, and there were a few surprises along the way.

From here we move to 8 groups of 8 players next weekend, with the top 4 again moving on to Round 3 to join the 32 seeds. As usual, we will not be playing on the long weekend, so round 3 will be held on the following weekend, 13/14 June.

The groups and venues for Round 2 will be finalised Monday night, and will be emailed that night. From here until the end of the tournament, I will be working on Sunday evenings, so results will not be available until Monday night (so potentially you will receive them on Tuesday morning). I will try to get them out earlier, but realistically I probably won’t have time.

Thank you to all the venues this weekend, we look forward to a successful couple months in partnership with you. And of course a thank you to the adjudicators, without whom we would not be able play at all. Players, remember these guys and gals give up their day to look after you, and I hear many of them drink Carlton Draught…

Bad luck to the players who bowed out this round, but if it makes you feel better you could not possibly have played worse than I did!!

As I said earlier, I wll send the groups for Round 2 out on Monday night.

Please find below the results from Round 1 (players in bold qualify for Round 2).
