Brief coverage of last night’s Captain’s Meeting (official minutes and more detail will follow soon):

The September meeting minutes were passed.

After a brief positive wrapup of the Nationals (including congratulating our Ladies team for being the first ever ACT team to make the finals at Nationals, and very high praise for our Opens and Masters teams), Doug Percy resigned as President, and was thanked by the Committee for his hard work and dedication to the Association. Joseph Morrall resigned as Vice President, nominated himself for President, and was elected unopposed. Joseph nominated Matt Kendrick for Vice President, who was also elected unopposed.

The 2010 Calendar was submitted. The Summer 2010 Season will start on 27 January. The January Captain’s Meeting will be held on the 18th. The draw and Captain’s Packs will be released at this meeting. Chris noted that Round 1 of the 2010 Ladies Singles will be held on Saturday only, and that the Ladies and Open 9 ball competitions will be held on different days. Chris also reported that Rankings were due to be completed soon.

Trent reported that the Juniors trials will be run this weekend (dec 12-13) at The Maram.

Too good to be true you ask? Apparently not.

Rolf sends word that The Maram are currently offering free pool and $2.50 schooners from 3-6pm, Mondays-Fridays.

For those lucky enough not to be doing the Dolly Parton 9 – 5 thing, get down there and support one of Canberra’s larger 8-ball venues.

2010 Summer Team Nomination Forms

Nominations for the 2010 Summer Competition are due at the December Captains’ Meeting (Monday 7th).

  • Competition starts mid January 2010. This is based on a countback from the Nationals in order to include both Summer and Winter comps and 5 rounds of State of Origin.
  • PLEASE contact your venue EARLY prior to nominating. This is not only a matter of courtesy but ensures the venue is still available for your team to play out of.
  • Include ALL contact details and signatures for ALL players. This includes an email for the captain (if it is not the captains email address please indicate which player it belongs to).
  • Include a venue contact name and number and email address if possible. This helps to keep the venues informed of all ACTEBA Comps and news.

I will have the Calendar published prior to the December meeting.

Congratulations Nicole Welsh and Steven Woods on their Australian Selections!!!

Nicole has capped a successful 2009 Nationals with Selection in the 2010 Australian Ladies Eight Ball Team. This is Nicole’s third selection in the national side and comes after captaining the ACT Ladies Team to their best ever result, as well as finishing 5th in the players stats for the Ladies. Nicole was also equal 1st for the Ladies in Master Breaks. In a great result for Nicole and the ACT, she was the third player selected.

Steve, while playing for NSW this year, has now made his 4th national side as the 5th player selected. Steve’s selection comes on the back of shooting 4th best in the stats and 3rd best in Master Breaks. Steve also made it to Round of 16 in the Singles.

Well done Nicole and Steve!

Results: Winter 2009 Grand Final and Season Wrap Up

Last night’s Grand Finals saw mixed results, with 2 runaway victories coupled with 3 close finishes.

Division 1 had two old foes aiming up and went down to the wire, with the Embalmers emerging victorious 13-11 over the Hammerheads after narrowly avoiding a playoff. I don’t have my records here at work, but I am pretty sure that makes four in a row for the Fyshwick Tavern outfit. Continue reading
