Winter Competition 2010

The Winter Competition has been pushed back a week against its original start date. Initially there was a two week break for the Nationals after Round One of the Finals. The decision to place the break there was based on the timing of the Champion of Champions tournament.

At last night’s State Executive Meeting, the captains agreed that it was preferable to have the break in between the final round of the regular season and the commencement of the finals series. This means that the dates for the Winter Comp and the Champion of Champions have both been changed by one week.

The Winter Competition will now start on July 14. The calendar on the website has been updated.

Nominations for the Winter Comp are still due at next month’s meeting (June 7) and the captains packs will be available at the July meeting.

Due to a couple of teams withdrawing this season, the number of teams currently registered is 41. This means there will more than likely be only 5 divisions again next season and there is a chance a team may miss out. While I will try to avoid this, I am also wary of avoiding the amount of byes we have this season. In lieu of this, no late nominations will be accepted. Please organise a practice session / bbq / tupperware party with your team in the next few weeks to get the sheet signed so you don’t miss out.

2010 Summer Finals Round 1: Draw

Hi all

What a close finish to a few of the divisions!

The Finals are here and for those first timers, as well as a few regulars who would like a reminder, the Finals run on a double elimination draw, which basically means you have to lose twice before you are knocked out. The first two rounds are played at the home venue of the team ranked higher on the ladder, whereas the Preliminary Finals and Grand Finals will be held at neutral venues. (sample draw is below)

State Trials: 2010 Ladies Singles Top 12 Results

The 2010 Selection Trials season started with an outstanding display from the ACT Ladies over the last two weeks. With five changes to last year’s Top 12 – including 3 newcomers – this weekend’s Top 12 promised to be an exciting event, with two of last year’s ground breaking State Team not in the mix.

As it stood, four of the twelve were current or recent ACT State Champions, including defending champion Cindy Blackmore, who was looking to add to her unbelievable resume with a 10th Ladies Singles title. But perennial ACT reps and top 4 contestants Nicole Welsh and Lesieli O’Connor were also keen to add to their trophy cabinet, as was Theresa Whitten, who has come back from a long layoff to once again challenge for the ACT title. State Trials: 2010 Ladies Singles Round 1 Groups

Hi all

[UPDATED THURSDAY April 8 @10:45am]: The groups have been changed since yesterday, due to me accidelntally missing a few entries. Please download the spreadsheet again – the right spreadsheet has now been uploaded. Also please note that there will be THREE round robins, not four. -Chris J]

My apologies for the late notice – my internet has been on and off for the past two weeks and funnily enough, everytime I went to send these it decided to go off.

As advertised, the Ladies Singles are being held this Saturday 11am (tables open from 10.30am). All groups will be played at The Maram as the Top 12 will be played there the following weekend.

The format is 3 rounds against each player, with the top 4 in each group qualifying for the Top 12. With two groups of 7 and one group of 8, this should make it pretty competitive.
