Coaching: Playing in the Zone

Being in “the zone” or “playing out of one’s mind” when you’re playing pool or snooker is an exhilarating stage of our play, and sometimes it’s hard to find ourselves there again. There is no interference from conscious thought, we lose ourselves in the action and continually breaking the false limits placed on our potential. I would like to get a group together and meet on a regular basis. The aim of the group is to assist players’ in their mental approach, and be the best they can be. It would only benefit players who practise SOLO regularly and are very familiar with their own games.

Results: 2011 Summer Round 14

Hi all,

After some very tense moments last night, with some teams trying their darndest to squeeze into the top 4, whilst others were desperately trying to hang onto their position and make sure they play next week, the results saw an amazing three teams make a last minute move from 5th into 4th place, being the Matildas in Div 1, Pains in Div 4 and the Uni Bombers in Div 5 (commiserations to the Snipers, Budgie Smugglers and Balls Deep All Stars). The finals start next week, with 1st playing 4th, and 2nd playing 3rd. In general, these matches will be played at the home ground of the 1st and 2nd teams, however all matches and venues will be confirmed shortly.

Please note the percentages in the ladder take into account some frame adjustments that were required due to many forfeits this season (the spreadsheet shows the ladder after round 14 before these adjustments and after, in case anyone is particularly interested).

The detailed ladder is available here:

Results: 2011 Summer Round 13

Hi all,

One week to go before the finals start, and the top 4 has only been decided in one division (3rd)… should be an exciting round next week! And don’t forget to bring all your scoresheets to the meeting on Monday. Below and attached are the results, cheers.

Results: 2011 Summer Round 12

Hi all,

Firstly the good news – there were no other unregistered players playing this season. Ted and myself are in the process of reconciling how many players in each team have played with how much each team paid in rego fees. If there are any issues, we will let captains know asap, but I think there might be a couple…

Next meeting – has been confirmed for Mooseheads on 2nd May. There is a lot on the agenda already, but one thing I want to point out is that we will be deciding State of Origin captains, so if you or any of your team would be interested in captaining either the North Canberra Potters, or the South Canberra Guns, come along to the meeting.

And now for the results… with only 2 rounds remaining, there is still not one division where the top 4 is determined, and Div 4 remains the tightest, with just 2 points separating 3rd and 7th. Huge 2 weeks ahead for some teams… At this early hour, there is one result not in yet for for Div 5, but given it won’t affect the finals positions (sorry N&B and Screamers) I thought I’d send this out now… (plus it gave me something to do at work at this crazy hour!) Results: 2011 Summer Round 11

Hi all,

Before I get into the results this week, I need to confirm a few result changes to Div 5 as a result of both Neil & Bob and the All Stars playing unregistered players. Here’s what has happened:

Round 2: Neil & Bob v Balls Deep All Stars: Originally a 12 all draw remains a 12 all draw (!);
Round 3: Kickers v Neil & Bob: Originally a 13-11 win for N&B becomes a 12 all draw;
Round 4: Neil & Bob v The Maram Harlequins: Originally a 15-9 win for N&B becomes a 13-11 win for N&B;
Round 7: Neil & Bob v Mooseheads 8: Originally a 14-10 win for Mooseheads becomes a 17-7 win for the Moose.
(all other matches where an unregistered player played, they didn’t win a frame!)

This should act as a stern reminder to all teams NOT to play a new player without first contacting the Tournament Director. As for whether the same thing has happened during the last month, I will update all stats before NEXT week, so if it has we can sort it out as soon as possible.

And now for the results: With 3 weeks of the regular season remaining, there’s not one division where the top 4 is decided, although a couple are close. Amazingly, in 4th division, there’s a mere 4 points separating the top seven teams!! Continue reading

2011 ACTEBA Open Doubles Champions and Top 12 Results

2011 ACTEBA Open Doubles Champions

Bob Sifri & Edmund Chen

Congratulations to Bob and Edmund on achieving their first State Title in emphatic fashion, winning the Final 5-0 over Steve Thomas & Michael Masal. Whilst Bob is an old hand at this eight ball thing we all love, Edmund has only been in ACTEBA for a few years but is starting to leave his mark, making the State Team last year and now with a State Title to his name.
